A New Start
Acts 2:1-4 Acts 9:3-9
God gives everyone of us a new start, not only at
the beginning of a new year, but everyday. We need to make good
use of each new opportunity that God gives us.
The Disciples get their new beginning.
Acts 2:1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully
come, they were all with one accord (one mind) in one place.
The Pentecost was a Jewish holiday that happened
50 days after the passover. Notice here the disciples are gathered
together in one place, have the same mind (goal).
Acts 2:2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven
as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they
Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues
like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost,
and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
The disciples received the ability to talk in
different languages because of the Holy Spirit. Saul gets his new
Acts 9:3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus:
and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
Acts 9:4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice
saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
Acts 9:5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the
Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee
to kick against the pricks.
Acts 9:6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord,
what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise,
and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
Acts 9:7 And the men which journeyed with him stood
speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.
Acts 9:8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when
his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand,
and brought him into Damascus.
Acts 9:9 And he was three days without sight, and
neither did eat nor drink.
We all get a new beginning.
We all have had new beginnings in our lives. When
we finish school and start working, when we get married, when we
accept Jesus as Savior, these are all new beginnings in our life.
Every January we get a new beginning, because of the new year.
What does God want each of you to do for Him this
year? That is something that each person needs to find out for themselves.
Then, like in our 2 examples from God's word, we need to obey God
and allow Him to control our lives. When we do that, He will lead
us in the way that He wants us to go and give us the ability to
do the things He wants us to do for Him.
God bless each of you in this new year as you continue
to listen to and obey His word.
