Prayer and God's Promise
John 15:7
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye
shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
In this verse we notice that God promises us if we
abide (stay) in Him and His words in us, we shall ask what we will
and it will be done for us. This verse does not mean we can ask
God for a lot of money and God must give us the money we ask for.
The main reason people don't get what they ask for is because they
are not asking for the right things from God.
Notice there are two rules that we can find in this
verse: First we must be born again. We find this in the first five
words; If ye abide in me. Now we must remember something here these
are Jesus' words. The only way we can abide in Him is if we have
already accepted Him as Saviour and Lord. Second we must be following
God daily. We can find this in the next six words: and my words
abide in you. Now the only way God's word can abide in us is if
we are doing daily Bible study and prayer.
If we are following God daily, we will be reading
and studing His word and spending time with Him in prayer. By doing
this we will know the will of God for our lives and we will be praying
that way. When we are doing these things and having faith God will
answer our prayers and give us the thing we pray for because we
will be praying for the things God wants us to have anyway. Two
final things we can learn from this verse is first we need to watch
our attitude in prayer, and second to have faith in God.
